"Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun."
Mary Lou Cook
Group Creativity Course
Thanks for your interest in the new group programme that I’m putting together.

Here’s some more information for you and I will happily answer any other questions you may have.

The Venue

The venue is in the centre of Hastings. There is free on-street parking and the station is just over 5 minutes walk away.

The Cost

£20 per week (6 week course)

When will it take place and how long will each session be?
As soon as I have four people.
At the moment, it would be on a Monday late afternoon/early evening for 2 hours.

However, this is flexible, so if you are interested, but can’t do Mondays, please get in touch anyway, in case I end up changing the day.
I am asking for a commitment to 6 weeks (although they may not be consecutive weeks, if everyone
needs a break)

Who is it suitable for?

If you are looking to explore your creativity and what it means to you, if you want to bring more creativity into your life or if you’re struggling with your creativity in some way, and are feeling blocked, then this is the course for you.

You might have an artistic outlet for your creativity, (so you could be a visual artist, a theatre performer, a musician, a chef, a gardener etc), or you could be looking for other ways to release your creativity, such as starting a new business or wanting to bring daily moments of creativity into your life. The course is designed to help anyone and everyone.

I am looking for four participants who are willing to help me test out this new group course, and hopefully be excited at the prospect of being part of the team developing it. Your feedback will be invaluable in refining the content of the course to give maximum impact.

In return, you will have a chance to try out something new, have an important voice in shaping the course, discover new ways of connecting to your creativity, working through some of your blocks and, in doing so, enhancing your life.

You might work in a creative industry, or you might be someone who has always thought of themselves as not creative. For more information, please click here.

How can you benefit from more creativity in your life?

Creativity is often thought of as being artistic and, yes, this can be part of it, but it takes many forms and can be experienced in many ways.

For more about this, please click here.

What will the course consist of?

There is a structure to the course, but it will also be tailored, where possible, to the participants. Consequently, this is to give you an idea of what might be involved, but there is also a flexibility to it.

It may contain a mixture of talking, different kinds of exercises designed to help you explore your creativity, and what’s getting in the way of you living more creatively. We might write, or use images or music to explore this; we might bring our attention to our bodies; we might move, we might bring in some meditation; we might do some more playful exercises. I will endeavour to give you a range of ways of listening to your own wisdom, understanding what it is that you need and ways to free yourself up.

It will be a mixture of learning, of working out what creativity means to you, deepening your relationship to your creativity (and, perhaps, yourself in the process), of honouring the more difficult aspects of the work, whilst also having fun. Laughter and play are vital to our creativity and our enjoyment of life, so will definitely be part of this workshop!

Feeling safe enough to explore is also crucial and will be respected at all times, so if anything feels uncomfortable, then you do not have to participate. This is a consensual, collaborative process.

For more ideas about the kind of blocks to our creativity that we might be looking at, please click here. Depending on the participants in the group and time, we may look at others that are specific to you.

Is it group therapy?

No, it’s not. Whilst it will hopefully be therapeutic, it’s not group therapy.

We may look at some aspects of mental health, for example how stress can affect our creativity, but this is not suitable for those in need of counselling, nor those who are in crisis.

If you need counselling, you are welcome to get in touch with me about that, as I am also a counsellor. Or you could try looking on the following websites for other therapists www.counsellingdirectory.org.uk or www.bacp.co.uk

If you are in crisis, please either call your GP, visit your local A & E or call the Samaritans on 116 123 or jo@samaritans.org

What are the next steps?

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch and I really hope that we get to work together!
